![]() ![]() ![]() It’s an interesting idea, especially given how ambiguous the Ellimist is in actual canon - we’re never sure what his motivations are, or if he’s even on our side. The Ellimist, as we see him, plays with a penchant for altruism and nice solutions, encouraging his species’ to evolve, whereas his opponents are more destructive. But, hold up, turns out this one’s actually a game, a video game to be exact, where the goal is to make minimal changes in the simulated life of a species to see which will dominate in the end. ![]() We’re introduced to the Ellimist (he has like two other names, but I’m using this one for convenience) as he’s playing a game with other species, as we’ve seen him doing in canon. Not my favourite, but it didn’t need to be. It’s an entertaining enough side-story, humanising the Ellimist and showing how and why he is the way that he is. Overall, while I don’t think this is a story that needed to be told, per se, I’m not sorry that it was or anything. Well, this was a lot lighter than the last one! Other than the intro and ending, foreshadowing the death of one of the Animorphs - but I’ll save that for next time. ![]() My summary: The Ellimist is an extradimensional meddler, caught up in his own elusive game with the being known as the Crayak…but what made him this way? Once upon a time, he was a regular person - a Ket, one of many, a slacker and a gamer. The Ellimist Chronicles, by K A Applegate ![]()
